Director Kabir Khan will release Ranveer Singh-starrer 83 on the OTT platform if further restrictions are imposed. On Day 10, the film managed to earn Rs 115 crore at the box office.
One of the most awaited films of 2021, 83, premiered after a long wait on December 24. While the makers completed the film long back, the pandemic due to the novel coronavirus, caused the delay in the theatrical release. Currently, Ranveer Singh-starrer is seeing a dip in numbers since many places have gone into partial lockdown and theatres in most cities are shut. Director Kabir Khan revealed that he will release 83 on the OTT platform if further restrictions are imposed.
KABIR KHAN TO RELEASE 83 ON OTT PLATFORM
On Day 10 (January 3), the worldwide collection of 83 stands at Rs 150 crore. As this big-budget film is struggling due to the ongoing pandemic, Kabir Khan informed that he will release 83 on OTT if required. During an interview, he said “We don’t know if we will have to shut down tomorrow, or will be afforded another five to six days. If further restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on the web, soon. But, I am keen [that] people take precaution and go to the theatres to watch it.”
The director further added that why he wanted 83 to be released on the big screens.“This film was ready with us 18 months ago. We wanted people to see it on the big screen because that is how it was designed. But, such are the times that we live in. We tried hard to acquire a safe spot for the film, but the day of its release, there was a spike in cases. By day four, Delhi theatres had shut down,” said Kabir Khan.
83 stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Chirag Patil, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk and Pankaj Tripathi, among others. The film hit the theatres on December 24 in 3D.
